‘They were stronger than us’ – admits Cameroon’s Rigobert Song after Senegal loss, while Aliou Cisse praises Lions of Teranga
Cameroon’s head coach, Rigobert Song, acknowledged the strength of the Senegalese side following their defeat, “When there is a defeat, we must bear responsibility, and therefore we must admit that Senegal was better than us in the match,” he said.
“Senegal were stronger than us. Their players were in their places on the field. They deserved their victory. For our part, we have young players in the national team, and they are at the beginning of their experience.”
Meanwhile, Senegal coach Aliou Cisse expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance. The Lions of Teranga secured their second consecutive victory in the competition, elevating their points tally to six. This result placed them at the top of the group, ensuring their advancement to the Round of 16 with one match still to play.
“I congratulate the players because they played a great match. They respected my instructions and all the advice that I gave them,” he said.
Nevertheless, Song remains optimistic and affirms that he will guide the Indomitable Lions to the second round of the competition.
“I am always optimistic. As long as there is a final match, there are no calculations to make. The next match will be a final for us, and I know that we will qualify for the second round,” Song concluded.Despite already securing qualification for the knockout stage, Cisse remains focused on the upcoming final group match against Guinea, “There is the last match against Guinea in the round. We must remain focused. We have played two matches in the competition so far, and there are five remaining to reach the stated goal,” he concluded.
