Lagos Ranked 5th Best City To Live in Africa 

The vibrant capital of Nigeria,Lagos has been ranked as the fifth most desirable African city for living, working, and investing by the Brand Finance City Index 2023 survey. 

According to the survey, Lagos garnered a desirability score of 56.7 per cent, positioning it closely behind Cape Town (South Africa), Cairo (Egypt), Johannesburg (South Africa), and Casablanca (Morocco), which held the top four spots with scores of 62.9, 60.7, 59.7, and 59.3 per cent respectively.

Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, also found a place on the chart, coming in sixth on the African list with a desirability score of 55.1 per cent.

Notably, the only African cities that made it onto the list of the world’s best cities were Cape Town, Cairo, Johannesburg, Casablanca, Lagos, and Nairobi.

Dominating the global ranking, London (England) emerged as the world’s premier city brand with a score of 84.6 per cent, closely followed by New York (the United States) and Paris (France), securing second and third places with scores of 83.0 and 79.7 per cent respectively.

The Brand Finance report revealed that the rankings were established through a global survey that engaged nearly 15,000 individuals across 20 countries on different continents. 

This survey is aimed at rating the perceptions of the top 100 cities worldwide. 

While commenting on the survey, the chairman and CEO of Brand Finance, David Haigh explained: ‘exceptional performance in the Index can be attributed to its global familiarity.”

He emphasized that the advantage of London’s high familiarity contributed to its success in claiming the title of the world’s best city.

“High familiarity means a deeper understanding of its qualities and a broader reach of its appeal, allowing the city to draw significant economic benefits from inbound migration, investment, and tourism,” Haigh added.

As cities around the world strive to enhance their desirability and global recognition, the Brand Finance City Index offers insights into how familiarity, reputation, and appeal play vital roles in influencing perceptions and economic outcomes.
